Beginning SharePoint 2010 Administration - A Review

Take a look behind the scenes and you will understand... that's the key point of this book. If you are not familiar with SharePoint in general, basic concepts, or use cases and if you wonder why you (may) need SharePoint you should read this book. All of the questions are answered and in combination with basic technical administration tasks you will not only get an understanding of how to do it... you will also know why to do it. Let's start from the beginning... the book has 14 chapters written by Göran Husman and Christian Ståhl:

1. Introduction to Microsoft SharePoint 2010
2. Building SharePoint Foundation Sites
3. Office Integration
4. Content Management in SharePoint 2010
5. Managing My Sites
6. SharePoint Administration
7. Building Intranets and Internet Portals
8. Customizing SharePoint 2010
9. Using SharePoint Designer 2010
10. Backup and Restore
11. Installing SharePoint Foundation 2010
12. Configuring SharePoint Foundation 2010
13. Installing Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010
14. Configuring SharePoint Server 2010

The writing itself is adequate, it's neither boring nor difficult or funny. The length of a chapter is around 30 to 50 sites depending on the complexity of the subject. Each chapter has easy to understand examples as well as graphics, diagrams and screenshots where necessary. With a summary at the end of each chapter you can sum up the things you have read.

The biggest strength of this book are the chapters 1 to 9 since these are the chapters telling you the concept behind each administration task. You will understand the task itself, the things you need and the things you have to consider. Chapters 10 to 14 are additional chapters... you should read them first because they tell you how to install SharePoint 2010. Here it's not that important to understand things from the beginning since on the one hand you need a running instance for chapter 1 to 10 and on the other hand the understanding comes with the use of SharePoint.

This Book, Learning Your Computer Through Pictures Is a Wonderful and Fun Way to Learn Computers!

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to tell you a story about my journey learning how to use my computer. Have you ever felt that you just don't have the skills to learn your computer and its applications? Have you ever been so frustrated with your computer that you just want to throw it out the window?

That was me too. As I began to play around with the internet at first it was just surfing around and looking at sites. Whenever I came upon a beautiful web page; and saw all of the unique applications the web designer put onto his page I would feel really bad because I didn't feel I had the skills to do those things even though I really had great ideas.

Review of Objects First With Java - A Practical Introduction Using BlueJ (4th Edition)

Picking up a language like Java can be difficult for a beginner; even if you understand the methods you need to use to get results, it can be easy to overlook the basic processes behind how they all mesh together. Kolling and Barnes identified the need for a fundamental understanding of how each element of Java functions and interacts, and packaged this information into an easy-to-understand, although lengthy, book. Objects First With Java: A Practical Introduction Using BlueJ comes with (as the title might suggest,) BlueJ, a Java environment perfectly suited to learning the basics of programming. With this environment, one can open a variety of simple Java modules included with the book, providing an extremely effective learning tool, particularly for those who learn best by seeing and doing.

The book does well in the process by which it teaches you; starting off with the structures of objects, classes and basic methods and progressing to more complex ideas, such as calling on methods outside your present object. The book can be obtuse at times, though this effect is largely mitigated by the inclusion of the BlueJ modules, which often directly show what is being taught. It should be noted that while this book sells itself as being for beginners, though even students with one or two years of programming experience could benefit from a quick glance through this book.

The price may be prohibitive at first glance, but the inclusion of the BlueJ environment and the Java modules helps justify this cost somewhat. Some might suggest buying older editions of this book, and for the most part I don't disagree with this, though keep in mind going back more than 1 edition of the book can get you into trouble in that you might not have all the modules of the 4th edition, and some information will be slightly different.

Women And Men Magazines: Standing Up To The Internet

With all the information available on the Internet there has been a slow decline in newspaper sales, and even a decline in those who get their news on television, because the Internet has made it very easy to access information at the click of a button. However, magazines have stood their ground against the electronic information takeover. Maybe it is due to their sexy and sometimes exotic cover models, perhaps it is because of the celebrities they feature, or maybe it is because of the reliable articles about current and interesting topics that continue to make them appealing. Women magazines and men magazines in particular have maintained their popularity and appear to be immune to the Internet coup d'état.

There are a number of women magazines from which to choose. There are the glamorous ones that feature make up tips, advice on what to wear and when to wear it, and how to please your man. These magazines often have a beautiful woman on the cover, or a famous movie star. Two of the most popular of these types are Cosmopolitan and Vogue. There are other magazines geared toward women that feature parenting tips, recipes, and overall advice on important subjects. These include Women's Health, Redbook, and Parents. Still there are many others that meet the interests of a particular population of women, such as Bride's and Runner's World.

When it comes to men magazines, the choices are just as plentiful and just as diverse. For the sports enthusiast there is Sports Illustrated and Golf Digest. For those interested in cars or motorcycles there are Popular Mechanics and Car and Driver. For the more sophisticated man interested in current news and contemporary features, there is GQ, Esquire, and Maxim. Of course, some of these publications come with their fair share of gorgeous females poised on the cover, or as tempting centerfolds.

With all of these choices in women magazines and men magazines it sometimes becomes expensive to regularly purchase your favorite ones at the cover price. Therefore, it is a lot more beneficial to your pocketbook to search for regular monthly subscriptions that offer huge savings. There are many online sites that offer over eighty percent off the cover price when you sign up for a yearly subscription to any magazine of your choice. Not only are you getting a substantial savings, but also you will not miss out on any edition that could possibly become a collector's item.

How To Choose A Magazine For Women

Many people enjoy having a magazine that they can read at their leisure, with the wide assortment of different choices, there is certainly something that will suit just about any interest or personal style. From numerous magazines for females featuring everything from fashion and style to gardening and home decorating, the choices are fantastic. A magazine for women is a great gift idea as well and is a unique way to keep giving throughout the year. Each new magazine that arrives is a reminder of the person who gifted the subscription, it also gives the recipient a chance to once again relax with a little entertainment and read about a favorite subject or hobby.

If you are looking for a magazine for women, you might want to consider one of the many cooking magazines that have become extremely popular. There are magazines that cater to every type of cooking imaginable and will certainly offer a wide selection for any one interested in food preparation. There are magazines specializing in vegetarian cooking, light cooking, gourmet, organic, desserts, and just about anything else, you can think of.

If cooking is not your thing, many women magazines focus on fashion and style. This can be a great way to keep up with the latest trends and learn some fashion tips or makeup techniques for the upcoming season. Not only will these magazines often have numerous articles on the latest fashion trends, but also they will help you learn how to get that same look on a budget. Not everyone has the money for high-end clothes, but many women still like to enjoy feeling fashionable and will love the many ideas they can get from these magazines.

Another popular type of magazine for women is the ones that cater to specific hobbies. There are magazines covering a multitude of topics from sewing, quilting and other needlecraft interests to golf, tennis, sailing and more. These magazines can be a lot of fun to read and offer a great way to introduce a new interest. While many of these magazines may not be only women magazines, they will certainly be something many women will enjoy. For example, there are many wonderful golf magazines that cater to both men and women and regardless of which sex you are, there will be numerous helpful tips and information to help you improve your game and learn about new places to play.

Are Forbes Magazine Articles a Good Choice for Me?

If you're like most people looking to buy a financial magazine, you're probably a little overwhelmed right now. There are so many choices and options, and you don't have the time to consume all of them, or the money to purchase all of them. Picking the right magazine for you becomes an essential decision point, and this article will help you figure out whether or not Forbes Magazine is the financial magazine you're looking for right now.

Forbes Magazine Articles are probably a better pick for those investing in the stock market, futures, or forex market, and already have some experience and a strategy to work off of. Forbes can help you cultivate your trading and investing by supplying you with market-relevant news and long-term factors. Forbes Magazine Articles do not have the same type of step-by-step instruction and basic how-to guides as beginning investing magazines like Money Magazine. Instead, it focuses on news, broader topics, and plain interesting tidbits, which can help larger or more experienced investors.

One entertaining feature of Forbes Magazine is their lists. Unless you are looking to be featured on one of these lists, or need to keep track of competition, these lists provide little outside of enjoyment. Some Forbes Magazine Article lists you may know include the Celebrity 100, the 400 Richest Americans, Best Colleges, World's Billionaires, and Largest Private Companies.

On the more serious side, Forbes offers advice on more advanced investment topics such as international investing, ETFs, options, commodities and currencies, and more. They also have the occasional stock and mutual fund article, and columns by their "Advisor Network". I would only recommend Forbes Magazine to more experienced investors who have already built a portfolio and have some knowledge of trading techniques.

Otherwise, Forbes is a great news source as well. They have a Business section, plenty of Tech news, and a smaller section for Entrepreneurs. There are Op/Ed pieces, Lifestyle articles and supplemental issues, and Career/Leadership advice. But all of these features come with a caveat.

The caveat is this- Forbes magazine articles are probably aimed more at middle and upper class Americans then it is to lower class Americans or international readers. For an example of this, just check out the annual supplemental issues on Technology and Lifestyle. Reflecting the majority of their readership, Forbes is sometimes accused of having a conservative and pro-business slant, but that's honestly to be partially expected of a financial magazine.

Web Graphic Design Magazines

Graphic designing and print media

The internet has become popular because of its own merit. However, you can't deny the importance and impact of the printed words. This is why print graphic design magazines have always remained important. There are quite a few of them available in the market and some of them are really excellent. For example, when you are talking about magazines like How, Print,.Net, Layers Magazine, Photoshop Creative, you are not only talking about heritage, you are talking about some of the most popular magazines in this field as well.

The great thing with these magazines is that they cover all the relevant aspects of the graphic design. So, you will have plenty to learn from them. They carry regular sections dealing with issues to learn. Certainly, they are ideal media to initiate and stay updated with this very dynamic profession.

Find out online resources

Of late, the importance of web design has increased greatly thanks to the overwhelming popularity of the internet. However, web design is a bit different from others due to the particularity of this medium. Now, the problem is that this aspect of design is not getting as much attention as it should. Anyways, the online resources can play a helpful hand in this regard.

There are several online magazines dealing exclusively with the web design and related issues. These magazines are updated regularly so that you can keep on exploring this creative field. Also, the options of the online resources are always more than the conventional resources. They are easily accessible and they offer more varieties. Web design is a complicated task and it is important that you hone your skills regularly. The magazines and journals do play a very important role in this regard.

The Sheer Versatility of Ebooks

Ebooks are becoming more and more widespread as the most viable form of literary media today. It is becoming obvious that developers of new ebook technology and their distributors are making a concerted effort to increase the scope of their potential customers. Sleek new features complement the already simplistic and efficient functionality of ebook readers and offer further support for various types of users. As a result of these recent advances, ebooks are becoming integrated into the daily lives of many people in professional, recreational, and education environments.

Ebooks are not only beginning to rival conventional literature; they are also beginning to replace it. This is simultaneously a good thing and a bad thing, though the only downsides of this ebook revolution are sentimental. While one can simply not deny the charm of holding a brand new hardcover book from a cherished author, ebooks simply offer innumerable advantages over their aged ancestors.

Ebook sales have increased exponentially in recent years and this is due not only to the features and convenience that ebooks and ebook readers have to offer, but also their affordability. The top 3 ebook devices have all lowered their prices competitively and ebook prices themselves continue to be consistently and in many cases significantly cheaper than their conventional counterparts.

Ebooks for Recreation

We all love to occasionally sit down with a good book in hand, relaxing and unwinding in an alternate reality where the stresses and issues of the real world become irrelevant just for a few precious moments. Sometimes though, things can be a little bit off and it can be hard to fully immerse yourself. It might be too windy or bright. It might be too dark or hard to find the best lighting. It might feel awkward or uncomfortable to hold a book upright for hours even though you are fully engrossed in the story and want to continue. The text might be too small or the font too fancy. Perhaps you have an appointment and you know the wait is going to be long, but you don't want to carry around a large book with you the entire day. There are hundreds of little things that might throw off your delightful reading experience. Most of these problems don't prevent you from reading or enjoying the story, but added together might create just enough inconvenience to discourage you from reading as much as you'd like to.

With ebooks, all of these problems are never an issue. No amount of wind can force the pages to turn on your ebook and with anti-glare screens, its pages will never be reflecting directly into your eyes. Many ebook readers have features that allow you to read when the lighting is less than ideal and they are light and easy to hold upright. If the font is too small, make it bigger! If you don't like the font, change it!. The best part is you can carry around your ebook reader and thousands of ebooks wherever you go conveniently and easy. Carry it in your purse, read ebooks on your phone and carry it in your pocket. Take your entire online library with you everywhere with your huge collection weighing less than a pound.

Ebooks are even more exciting for entertainment purposes because of their various multimedia options. Have you ever had a book that was capable of showing full resolution pictures and video in color? Ebooks can even have audio. That's a big step up from the grainy pictures that are included in some paper books. Additionally, ebooks can be easily shared with friends via either portable media or printing. Never again will you have to worry about loaning out a book only to never see it again.

Ebooks for Education

Ebooks can be extremely valuable for educational purposes regardless of age. For very young children, interactive children's ebooks can make reading and learning a very fun experience with the charm of pop-up books that we all remember from our childhoods combined with modern technology to make them even more innovative and engrossing. Ebooks can be printed out removing the risk of them being destroyed or damaged by careless children.

For high school and college students, research can be done easily and seamlessly using ebook libraries and search functionality. Sources can be hyperlinked and notes can be taken on every page. Hyperlinks within sources can be easily clicked and explored to find more information. These features can also be used for media publications to make research even easier. You will save hours of time by avoiding going to a real library and navigating through the endless aisles in addition to being burdened with having to return the books later. Each of your sources can be printed out for further reference.

Ebooks for Professionals

In the office, convenience, efficiency, cost-effectiveness and the ability to share information are of paramount importance where every second and dollar matters. Multitasking in the office can be done very easily with an ebook reader that can read documents and media aloud to you while you work on another task. Internet access on ebook readers that are able to utilize this functionality can integrate many of your activities together seamlessly allowing you to connected to the world at the same time as enjoying the features of your ebook device.

Ebooks for Everyone

Ebooks allow more people to both produce, distribute, and purchase literature because it is less expensive both for the buyer and the seller. These attributes complement the general accessibility of ebooks to almost everyone because provided you have an internet connection, you can get ebooks from anywhere in the world.

The sheer portability of ebooks allows any type of user to seamlessly integrate ebooks into their lives despite their use for it. Not only are the actual readers small and light, but you can store a virtually infinite amount of ebooks on your reader and take them with you wherever you go.

Ebooks are safer for the environment. Not only are no trees or ink consumed in the process of creating ebooks, but many more resources are saved from being wasted as ebooks require no materials to transport, produce, or distribute besides electricity.

Ebooks are fully customizable no matter what your use for them is. Text size, font, text to audio, page style, ink style, and more can be changed upon whim.

Ebooks last forever and cannot be destroyed unless you physically damage your ebook reader, in which case ebooks are easily backed up to be preserved indefinitely. Your ebook reader can be easily replaced as well considering the dropping prices of the devices and also taking into consideration that many of them come with warranties or insurance policies.

Unlike standard literature, ebooks and ebook devices are continually being updated, upgraded, and improved upon to serve your needs better and more dynamically. This means that with each passing year, ebooks become more convenient, widespread, customizable and efficient with every growing amounts of available literature for you to purchase or download for free.

Ebooks are more affordable and convenient to purchase than paper books. You can download an endless amount of books without even leaving your home. An online library allows you to have access to thousands of books for a flat fee.

The fact of the matter is, ebooks are the evolution of the conventional book and have been improved upon in virtually every area possible. While it is hard to completely say goodbye to paper books due to their charm and sentimental value, it is inevitable that we will eventually have to accept and embrace its more efficient, convenient, and affordable predecessor, the ebook.

Critique of David Horowitz's Book: THE PROFESSORS

As a Nation, we are subject to many antidisestablishmentarianisms. United States freedoms inherent allow the altruistic and anti-American as well -- as means to influence the mindset of our most vulnerable. Thus, we critique a book which dares to expose a segment of academics in America. For those seeking an institute of higher learning for their college-age children, this book appears to be a must-read.

Anti-Americanisms, jihadisms, and cultural dissidents amongst our premier colleges are the perfect forum for indoctrination of other than traditional values and habits of thinking in the mainstream. Our finest endure much polarization in the learning process and not exactly in keeping with the tutelage expected from folks back home. Naturally, parents want the best possible education for their offspring but adherence to the traditional values.

In academe, the author claims radical ideologies are not the exception -- that they are legion: havens for revolutionaries intent on progressive agendas, with a few violently anti-American, advocating a more liberal society, and preaching special antiestablishment programs -- all the while enjoying America's largesse and living the good life on tax dollars and tuition fees as they further ambition. The author continues his rant and asks: What does the future hold for any society continuously tolerating such hate-pedagogy and anti-American ideologies in Institutions of Higher Learning?

According to the author, we can improve our educational curriculum by eliminating the radical chairships at particular institutions and mandating more traditional forums. Purchased chairs continue to gain support from those thinking themselves disenfranchised and others with personal agendas. On professor compared victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks to Nazis and deserved what they got! This is the radical profile, ensconced with tenure, and described by the author.

The author questions: Is it any wonder our culture has evolved into the permissive and promiscuous society it reflects? Defensively, we wait for the other shoe to drop. If we do not anticipate nor justly resist the enemy within our midst; then we, by default, nurture him, protect his rights, and subsidize his existence.

Many dissident professors love their life in America, for only in America can they opportune capitalist advantage so adamantly accused in protected lecture. Under another nationalist or socialist regime, such anti-government and anti-altruisistic ranting would garner short shrift. Only under the shield of freedom can dissidents subvert freedom and advocate the culture so readily lived without.

Horowitz's book is highly recommended to those who wonder what has happened to the good old days, to reason, and to good sense. Slowly but steadily our culture suffers from a lesser incentive; all the while, opportunists seek to further their own cause and let the status quo continue. But we can resist; read this book to discover whether your college choice offers a good or bad climate for your son or daughter.

Academe is the proper setting to advance idealism and to selectively eliminate the unappealing setting. We contend some academies unwisely furnish refuge for less than the best for your special son and daughter. Politics and religion are central in the thrust of transition epees, a thrust to be rejected by informed foils. En garde would seem to be the watchword!

To be prepared is to be aware. The world does not always conform to traditional values: in academe, in religion, or in cultural ethos. We can do much to attain peace of mind, but we discover how mostly through the dissemination of information. Discover how easily and effectively false information can permeate the mind from modern monotheisms. Consumers can be more independent and effective than they might think.

Myths and Masters of The Game Review

Launched literally a few days ago, Myths and Masters of The Game has already managed to call out a storm of controversial reviews. The eBook is a piercing insight of the investigative journalist Adam Brown into the diverse and at times shocking space called seduction community. With 20 years of career behind, Adam Brown has a decent background of an acclaimed journalist mostly reporting from hot spots all over the world. According to the author himself, his multifaceted experience of many years yields to the intense and unpredictable reality he has encountered researching the dating community.

Myths and Masters of The Game is reviewed as an "unofficial sequel" of The Game by Neil Strauss. This is a fact speaking of ambitiousness and in a certain sense courage of the author who definitely deserved respect for taking this considerable risk.

Myths and Masters of The Game is a story. It's a story where all appearing characters are not fictitious and any resemblance to real persons is not incidental. Reflecting two month journey through the "Project Rockstar", an unprecedented experiment developed by Love Systems, the book covers the adventures of the selected members and instructors of the project. Though weaker as compared with Neil Strauss' humor, novelty and flavored characters, Myths and Masters of The Game reviews actuals of the pickup artists' community staying as close to the truth as possible.

In spite of its ambitious and wide-ranging goal, the book has some obtrusive corners that we'll refer to in summarizing Myths and Masters of The Game review.

THE GOOD

The book gives an objective account on the "Project Rockstar". It pictures the way of getting to know the end game: a place that most men find themselves in at a certain stage of their relationships with women. This is a good insight into the bare reality of the seduction community.

THE BAD

The visible influence of the Love Systems on the author correlates his perspective to the dating company's approach to the pickup and seduction issues, thus making his viewpoint not impartial. The language is not as vivid and entertaining as in The Game, whereas the structure and form are almost similar to it.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Putting itself on the same shelf with the number one bestseller in New York Times and Amazon The Game, Myths and Masters of The Game does certainly aim high. Another question is whether the set up goal will be achieved in its full. The chances for it seem to be a little bit overestimated. However, this book will be a good gain for more inactive community members who may be motivated by the stories described in it and see the benefits of professional trainings with top dating artists placed in a good light.

Top Ten Books - What's Been Famous Around The World?

If people are buying a book, it must be good, right? Or when it comes to modern ones, they could just have a good marketing campaign, in which case we should reward those who came up with it anyway. Let's have a look on top ten books that made a killing and sort them based on the number of sold copies:

1. The Lord of the Rings

* Author: J. R. R. Tolkien
* # of sold copies: 150 million
* First edition: 1954

Although this series has become even more famous after being filmed, it's fair to say that the tale of Middle Earth is an ingenious work of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. It reaches deep inside of us and plays on our imagination, wishes and inspiration.

The story of one little hobbit named Frodo Baggins succeeding where immortal elves or noble kings have failed gives us a very truthful message that literally nothing is impossible. Tolkien did a wonderful job in creating a living world and it will take a long time before his legacy is forgotten - if it will ever come to that.

2. Dream of the Red Chamber

* Author: Cao Xueqin
* # of sold copies: 100 million
* First edition: 1759

Let's not forget that China is indeed a big country and consequently, so being successful on the Chinese market has its charms. Although I personally never heard about this book in particular before, the numbers do not lie and over one hundred million sold copies seized the second place in our list.

Dream of the Red Chamber is one of the Four Great Classical Novels, as they call them in China. It depicts traditional Chinese cuisine, mythology, proverbs etc. It is based on the author's own experience with the Chinese aristocracy in the 18th century.

3. And Then There Were None

* Author: Agatha Christie
* # of sold copies: 100 million
* First edition: 1939

It's hardly a surprise that Agatha Christie as one of the best authors of detective novels out there made it to our top ten books list. She is well known for her excellent plots and surprising endings. She created a bit of a fuss by originally calling this book "Ten Little Niggers" - the name was changed to the current And Then There Were None so that it is not offensive towards Afro-Americans.

And what's going on in this book? Simply put, ten people of different social classes are invited to an island where they are accused of murders and they start dying, one by one - but you'll have to read it yourself, we all know it's a bad idea to talk about plots too much when it comes to detective stories.

4. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

* Author: C. S. Lewis
* # of sold copies: 85 million
* First edition: 1950

C. S. Lewis has provided us with another grand tale of unusual heroes. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is but one part of a gigantic masterpiece describing a strange world full of magic and strange creatures somehow co-existing with our own.

4 siblings named Peter, Edmund, Susan and Lucy enter the world of Narnia through a wardrobe, only to find out that they are both persona non grata and expected saviors. In case you were thinking that Chronicles of Narnia and LOTR are a bit similar at times, keep in mind that Lewis and Tolkien were very close friends, in fact Lewis helped Tolkien with a few passages in LOTR.

5. The Da Vinci Code

* Author: Dan Brown
* # of sold copies: 80 million
* First edition: 2003

Having a successful book release in the 21st century no longer depends simply on writing a good book, but also on the marketing and distributing channels. Dan Brown and his team obviously managed that, because selling 80 million copies over 7 years is simply remarkable.

The Da Vinci Code is a mysterious story depicting a cohesion between Catholic religious beliefs and the modern world. You should fasten your seat belts before you start reading it, because the pace is quick and you could easily get off track!

6. The Alchemist

* Author: Paulo Coelho
* # of sold copies: 65 million
* First edition: 1988

"When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it". I don't know how does the original in Portugese sound, so the translation will have to suffice. The point is that Paulo Coelho tells us that if you want something real badly, you shall have it.

The Alchemist tells a story of a young shepherd boy who overcomes love and danger on his quest for a treasure. Apparently, the story is so good that it had to be translated into 67 languages and breaking a Guiness record in translations for a living author.

What might especially young people find very appealing is that Paulo Coelho encourages people to use peer to peer networks, because he perfectly understands that people are honest and they will pay for good work - eventually.

7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

* Author: J. K. Rowling
* # of sold copies: 44 million
* First edition: 2007

Yet another fairy tale made it to our list, I'm beginning to think that people might like fairy tales after all... anyway, a lot of children around the world grew up on the stories about Harry, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and Hogwarts. As expected, the final piece of the Harry Potter puzzle with its quite original name Deathly Hallows was quite successful.

Only time will tell whether the Harry Potter series has the qualities of say Lord of the Rings or it will fade with the upcoming seasons. On the other hand, no one can deny Miss Rowling a great impact on both children and their parents - that has to count for something...

8. War and Peace

* Author: Leo Tolstoy
* # of sold copies: 36 million (in the USSR)
* First edition: 1869

Leo Tolstoy, a Russian writer, decided to demonstrate his beliefs that there is some greater power forming our history. Along with the fact he didn't like popular history and being a war veteran, he then wrote one of the largest and most popular novels in the world literature, War and Peace.

This jewel among books is divided in four volumes, each being a follow up of the previous one. War and Peace has indeed a lot of characters, both fictional and real historic figures. The plot is set in the beginning of the 19th century when Napoleon invades Russia.

Interesting fact is that although War and Peace is clearly a Russian literature from a Russian author, parts of the book are written in French - probably because most of the story is focused on 5 noble families and nobility in Russia used to speak French in that particular era.

9. Think and Grow Rich

* Author: Napoleon Hill
* # of sold copies: 30 million
* First edition: 1937

There are tons of motivational books these days. Some are better, some are worse and it's up to you to choose the one that can really help you. Think and Grow Rich is probably a safe bet, because it takes a bit of ingenuity to write something everybody knows these days - only 70 years ahead.

The best way how to become successful is to find out what others did before success came to them - and that's exactly what Napoleon Hill did. According to his mentor's (A. Carnegie) advice, he studied the life paths of 16 wealthy individuals and pointed out their steps to victory.

If you're looking for personal development tools, Think and Grow Rich should be on the top of your priorities.

10. Nineteen Eighty-Four

* Author: George Orwell
* # of sold copies: 25 million
* First edition:1949

History has shown us that mankind is capable of both terrible and good things and it's a matter of conscience which side prevails. George Orwell took the liberty to tell us how what the world look like if despotic and oppressive regimes took the upper hand.

In the imaginary year 1984 the Earth is divided among three major nations which constantly wage war against each other. The main character named Winston Smith lives in Oceania ruled by one party - called The Party. Everything is scarce, basic human right and emotions are constantly being twisted and above all, The Big Brother is always watching.

Although 1984 is quite gloomy and despairing, we have to acknowledge that it's still in our "grasp" to create such a scenario. It needed to be said out loud in order to realize how absurd and sick such totalitarian practices are.

Conclusion

Reading good books makes our lives better, because it brings us new perspectives and knowledge. Wise man knows that he never knows enough and reading several of the most popular books out there is almost a cultural necessity.

Rich Dad's Guide to Gold and Silver (Maloney)

Gold Stocks and Silver Stocks present a huge opportunity for savvy investors that know how to source the right information.

In this article I review Rich Dad's Advisors: Guide to Investing In Gold and Silver by Michael Maloney. The author of this book is a convicted and impassioned advocate of Gold Bullion and Silver Bullion. This book is in the series of books published under Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad brand.

I really appreciated how simple and accessible this book was, true to the Rich Dad style of writing. Not quite as easy to read as Rich Dad Poor Dad but very accessible with straightforward explanations. This is particularly helpful when the author dives into certain historical events dating as far back as the Romans, and as complex as such international agreements as the Bretton Woods agreement. Despite the fact that these topics can easily become overwhelming and intimidating, Maloney does a great job of making the topic accessible to readers.

Maloney asserts that the only way to invest in Gold and Silver is to purchase bullion that is held privately in your place of residence or else in a 3rd-party, non-financial institution locale. I sincerely appreciate his rationale for this as only the physical possession of gold and silver bullion will be safe in the case of a mass financial meltdown. If an investor has their gold or silver held in a safety deposit box at the bank, it won't be available to them in the case of financial apocalypse as the institution / bank would likely be closed down altogether; and if things really degrade to mass lootings and riots the bullion could be lost altogether if held at a bank.

There's no debating the safety of assets during this kind of cataclysmic financial situation. This begs the question, though, what about absolutely every other point in time? Even if this kind of meltdown were to happen (however likely or unlikely) what would be the most advantageous situation in the months leading up to it, and the years following it? There are some extraordinary Gold and Silver Stock picks to be had, and it would seem prudent to look at the big picture, and the full menu of options before sticking all investable funds into a gold bar, then shoving this gold bar under one's mattress at home.

Overall, I sincerely appreciate Mike Maloney's book Rich Dad's Advisors: Guide to Investing In Gold and Silver as an introductory piece to the topics of Gold and Silver, Precious Metals, Gold Stocks, Silver Stocks, and the history and issues that surround them. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an introduction to the topic of Gold and Silver, and their associated Stocks.

I also recommend that this book serve as a springboard to further education instead of treating it as the definitive be-all guide to investment. There are many amazing resources out there that allow you to more closely and specifically consider your options when it to Gold, Silver, Gold Stocks, Silver Stocks, and precious metals in general.

Relationship Management Review

Relationship Management is another good quality product from Love Systems (previously known as Mystery Method Corporation) and its president, co-founder and program leader Nick Savoy. The Mystery Method Corporation run by Nick Savoy and Mystery was the first dating company at the time to offer "live" trainings in clubs and bars teaching men to pick up women in practice. After splitting up with Mystery (Erik von Markovik) in late 2007, Nick Savoy continued his mission providing dating and relationship advice through seminars and in field trainings already in the rebranded Love Systems.

Launched on September 05, 2007, Relationship Management is a video collection of private seminars delivered by Nick Savoy, especially recommended for beginner/intermediate level dating students. If you are not much experienced in relationships or don't have much success in your dating life, or just want to improve your relationships by more commitment and loyalty it's the right product for you.

Let's go through a brief Relationship Management review to make out what's particularly good and what could be better in this product.

THE BAD

There is not enough reference to a relationship as a positive add-on to your life. The content is mostly covering classic boyfriend-girlfriend relationships, expanding only on traditional types and leaving out models like multiple or more complicated relationships. The advice on how to behave when somebody tries to wolf your woman is arguable in terms of effectiveness and healthy mindset.

THE GOOD

Relationship Management can serve as a strong pattern for the beginners aiming to build a singular traditional relationship or for those who want to proceed with the existing relationship moving it to a deeper level. Savoy gives a good relationship management review to general principles of "pick up artists'" community and adds a pinch of innovative love systems concepts to the material. In complex, these features make the product a valuable gain to start building your dating life on or improve your dating skill set.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The DVD contains exhaustive description of traditional relationships, including general principles of relationship management, different levels of commitment relationships and infidelity model. It's a good start for newbies with little or no dating experience. Guys striving to pass up common mistakes or looking for better quality relationships and non-standard situations will also pick up a good piece of advice from this product. However, if you have a set of lessons memorized from your personal former experiences and like experimenting with diverse types of relationships (e.g. multiple dating) the Relationship Management may appear not so rewarding against the price.

The Business Transition Crisis - Book Review

Who is this book for?

This book is a must read for entrepreneurs and business owners who are thinking about their succession plan or drafting an exit strategy. Every business owner must plan for that transition. Unfortunately not everyone does. If you don't plan your business transition someone else will make the decisions for you.

What is the urgency?

This book sounds a timely warning to the baby boomers within that group. Many of those business owners will be forced into a fire sale. Baby boomers have affected so many aspects of our culture and economy as they've grown older.

If you are a boomer you might recall the mortgage rates of the eighties hitting the high teens. I felt lucky to lock in at 14% for five years. Prices skyrocketed when boomers were ready to buy - and they will plummet when they are ready to sell.

This book offers some startling statistics. One that might chill you is "71% of business owners plan to retire within the next 10 years, yet only 7% have a written plan for succession."

Imagine the financial, emotional and health tolls on the unprepared business owners. Perhaps the most traumatic issue for entrepreneurs is to let go of the business they built. That's the case at the best of times. Imagine the pandemic when the massive baby boomer crowd decides to exit en mass. That's the crisis.

Why should you read it?

The Business Transition Crisis is a good read for any business owner even if the only thing it does for you is to help you recast your business as a product - not as your baby. That major perspective shift is necessary for you to begin and successfully complete your transition.

The book continues to offer perspective checks and guidelines for the successful business owner. You can follow this systematic approach to prepare yourself and your business for successful transition. Even if you think that it's too early to start planning your transition it will be worthwhile to read the book, address the questions and start preparing yourself for the process.

The book is written in a business-owner-talking-to-business-owner candor. Wayne Vanwyck offers you insights from his experience as an owner of three businesses. That includes lessons from his mistakes and successes. He reveals his own painful wake-up call that forced him to address his business transition.

The author provides insights from the interviews that he conducted with hundreds of business owners across North America. The excerpts from some of these conversations are revealing. Some examples will make you cheer while others might sadden you. In every case the lessons are clear and simple. This is reflective experience speaking to you.

If you are thinking about your business transition then this book is a powerful yet clear and simple step-by-step guide to personal and financial success. You are presented with probing questions that must be addressed at each step of the process. There are checklists, action lists and tips.

There's help on how to build your transition team and ensure that all the relevant players are working for your best interest. The book introduces the intriguing concept of working with a Business Transition Coach. This is a role that offers more comprehensive support than one would receive from a lawyer, banker, accountant or business broker.

The book lists and explores several options of retiring from your business. In each case there are important steps you must follow to ensure the success of your health, financial security and important relationships. The Business Transition Crisis is a book that every business owner needs to read before they retire so they can retire successfully.

Things I've Learned From Seth Godin's "Poke the Box"

Poke the Box by Seth Godin is not your typical self-help book. It's a manifesto that tells you not just to take charge of your life. Godin provokes the readers to take risks and step out of the comfort zone. This is the essence of poking the box. You have to make something happen by straying from the usual and breaking out of the conservative norms. Godin wants to bring out the innovator in each person and goes back all the way to the Industrial Age to prove that the road to success is paved by breakthroughs and inventions. Godin recognizes that the path paved by risks includes experimentation, failure, and the repetition of both. But Godin explains that after numerous encounters with CEOs and head honchos, he says that they had to go through the same process to get to where they are.

Critics of this book easily dismiss Poke the Box as another sickening attempt to boost people's morale by opening their minds to change and motivating them to climb greater heights, with the promise of success at the other end of the ladder. On the contrary, I think Poke the Box gives a fresh and raw perspective to success. It would be worth taking a little peek into Godin's life and string of achievements. This is one of the things that I took into consideration since I believe that the credibility of a person who wants to perpetuate change is measured by the change he or she has perpetuated himself.

About the Author

Godin is a best-selling author and an entrepreneur who can comfortably take pride in leading a success story. He can be very well considered a leading example of groundbreaking innovations, just as described in Poke the Box. He obtained an MBA from Stanford. Godin is the CEO and founder of Yoyodyne. Yoyodyne is an acclaimed direct marketing company, acquired by Yahoo! in 1998. His success compelled Business Week to award him the Ultimate Entrepreneur for the Information Age. He has written 10 books, all of which are best-sellers. His works speak of marketing and the importance of change. One of his popular works is Unleashing the Virus, which was ranked number 4 in Amazon Japan and number 5 in Amazon USA. Godin is also a celebrated speaker and was included in the list of 21 speakers for the Next Century by Successful Meetings. Clearly, the guy lives out the principles of his Poke the Box.

Success Starts When You Start Something

It's everyone's instinct to lean towards the safe and stable. Sadly, they easily confuse them with the static. When you Poke the Box, you stimulate things. You get things going. This is what Godin encourages his readers to do. He encourages people to take on a revolutionary mindset, far away from conformity. You don't expect something to happen when you just stare at the box. In fact, not doing anything at all is riskier than doing something. Being content with the status quo is more dangerous than taking a step forward, as Godin says in Poke the Box.

All great programmers learn the same way: they poke the box. They code something and see what the computer does. They change it and see what the computer does. They repeat the process again and again until they figure out how the box works.

Godin said in an interview that success was determined by the ability to keep up with a system and work efficiently in it. In our present state, it no longer works that way. The challenge of today is to create a new system which will be more efficient and progressive. Starting something new is the best way to get noticed in the world where everyone is already good at being efficient.

Godin relays this idea in connection to his forte, marketing. Marketing is all about producing fresh ideas and engaging content to draw in consumers. He is always on his toes because he needs to constantly start anew. The same goes for other CEOs and head honchos. They caught their consumer's attention by offering something unfamiliar to everyone. Did they ever think that consumers will reject them? This leads us to the next point.

Failure is an Inevitable Part of Success

Now, this is something that your elders might have told you already. But really, it's easier said than done. Nobody wants to fail, right? Failure in success is what makes Poke the Box stand out. Books on success are simply optimistic in nature, often masking the bitter reality that behind every success is a big possibility of failure. Godin is not shy to remind his readers of this stark reality. People are afraid of changes and new possibilities because they're afraid of failing in an uncharted territory. But really, the logic is simple and it will never change. You will never know unless you try.

Those who fear risk also begin to fear movement of any kind. People act as though flux, the movement of people or ideas, or anything else that's unpredictable, exposes us to risk, and risk exposes us to failure. The fearful try to avoid collisions, so they avoid movement. Those people have made two mistakes. First they've assumed that risk is a bad thing, and second, they've confused risk and flux, and come to the conclusion that movement is a bad thing as well.

The hesitant ones avoid friction because they want to avoid igniting something that could be dangerous. They never consider the possibility that they can ignite a spark that will provide light to something better. In Poke the Box, Godin emphasizes that people blur the lines between risks and change. Change involves risk but risk doesn't necessarily involve change and movement. Godin wants his readers to embrace a change that can possibly benefit everyone, not just a reckless risk.

"Embrace Change for a Worthy Purpose

Formulating a plan, however, is a rare valuable skill."

This is what distinguishes mere risk from movement. When you take a reckless risk, you move along without a plan. It's easier to embrace the change, experimentation, and failure if you truly believe in what you are doing. That should be part of planning your change. The bottom line is that you spark something new in a field or area that you truly believe in and not just sit in fear. It's our obligation as humans to be as dynamic and changing as ever, and not to remain static. If you don't believe in what you're doing, it's difficult to accept that there will be a rocky road along the way. Finally, Godin said that:

"The challenge is to focus on the work, not on the fear that comes from doing the work."

If you love what you're doing, you will focus on the work and not on the fear.

A Must-Read for Anyone Who Wants to Make an Impact

This is one of my favorite all-time reads because it's truthful and devoid of sugar-coating and exaggerated optimism. It's rooted in reality but it inspires a lot. Poke the Box is thought-provoking and action-provoking bookshelf staple.

Your Best Year in Network Marketing by Mark Yarnell

Your Best Year in Network Marketing by Mark Yarnell is a guide for anyone who has ever partaken or thought about taken up a marketing business opportunity. The first year is always the hardest. Over half of the individuals who take up a network marketing venture quit within the first couple of months. The reason why is because although this industry can bring great rewards and success, it's also considered one of the most difficult businesses to run.

People give up in MLM because they don't know how to handle rejection, stay motivated, nor do they know how to recruit new members and make sales. The pressure can be overwhelming because no one wants to hear about what you're selling. Everyone would much rather go to their local retail store and purchase it themselves.

In network marketing, it's all about how you handle rejection, as well as how motivated you are to keep pushing forward. Some people simply go with the tides until they've been thrown out of the water. The pressure is tremendous at times, but nevertheless, this industry holds great rewards for those who choose to hang on. Your Best Year in Network Marketing by Mark Yarnell teaches you how you can hang on, even when you feel as though nothing is working out.

This book has sold over 400,000 copies and has been proven to be one of the most inspirational and effective help guides in the business. Millions of entrepreneurs have turned to this guide in times of doubt and discouragement, only to find the uplifting energy they need to help them refocus their attention to their goals and further build their career.

A very important part of building you income as a network marketer is knowing how to create and maintain a downline. Without residual sales and new members, you'll have to continue reaching a daily sales quota all on your own, which can be a lot of hard work. The beauty of Your Best Year in Network Marketing by Mark Yarnell is that it teaches you how to approach others and make them feel compelled to join your team. There are not "secret tricks" involved, just the simple truth about what the network marketing industry can do to change their lives.

Fortunately, you don't have to walk in the dark, fearful that you'll be forced to return to your miserable day job. The good news is that anyone can lead a financially-independent life, free of bosses, strict hours, and paychecks. As a network marketer, you have the power of choice. You can choose what products you want to sell, how much money you want to make, and when you want to work.

Your Best Year in Network Marketing by Mark Yarnell will help you to continue to live your dream by opening your eyes to what you need to do to keep things moving in the right direction. This guide will also help you to remove all of the false beliefs that you may have had prior to your venture in network marketing. Much of society's false beliefs regarding network marketing is a result of the media (mostly the internet). The media has led people to believe that they can begin making thousands within their first few weeks. Unfortunately, this unrealistic view of the industry has resulted in a lot of unrealistic expectations.

Your Best Year helps you to see for what it really is. You can take heart that yes, you can make thousands, but it may take a few months. You can even become filthy rich by your second year, but you must know how to run your business and deal with everything in a realistic and enthusiastic manner.
